Actually kilts never had anything to do with Ireland; they have more to do with Norse origins. They were however
only invented in the 16th century and only regularly worn in the Highlands in the following few centuries. And red hair and freckles are just as Scottish as they are Irish. You're right about the harps though, or at least specifically the clàrsach.

16th century? - I think that's the Tartan you're referring to - The original kilt has alot of Irish mythology attached to it but if you want to hit right back to the beginning then Ancient Egypt
first invented it

for that matter. Of course you can also distinguish between great kilts and small kilts, the latter arriving even later like the book says.
