The film follows the life journey of the eldest son, Jack, through the innocence of childhood to his disillusioned adult years as he tries to reconcile a complicated relationship with his father (Brad Pitt). Jack (pl
ayed as an adult by Sean Penn) finds himself a lost soul in the modern world, seeking answers to the origins and meaning of life while questioning the existence of faith. Through Malick's signature imagery, we see how both brute nature and spiritual grace shape not only our lives as individuals and

a guy in his 40s is walking inside a tall skycraper and while hes walking he starts seeing flashbacks about his childhood (that was a very very sad childhood, his father was very mean, one of his friends dies, he kills a stray dog etc.) after all the flashbacks he commits suicide by jumping out
 of the skyscraper... he is then reunited with all the people he was remembering in his childhood on a beach. this film is basically about the meaning of life
